The level of news-making violence over past six weeks has left many people stunned. Bombings at airports, police shootings, sectarian slaughter and an attempted coup came in waves, leaving the world's citizens filled with sorrow, pain and anger. The fact that in most cases there is no suspect alive to interrogate means that grief is often mixed with myriad unanswered questions. Confusion and guesswork replace comfort and completion for families of the victims. Governments and media rely on supposition, hypotheses and intelligence.
