The European Commission is focusing its energy policy to firmly liberalize Europe's energy market, emphasizing increased competition, lower prices and providers other than Russia. Despite the European Union's efforts, some large energy firms insist on following the previous ways of national monopolies. If Europe is to have any chance of liberalizing, it must not only rein in large firms but also break up Europe's most controlling firm: Germany's E.On Ruhrgas International.
