Editor's Note: The following is an internal Stratfor document listing significant meetings and events planned for the next week. Stratfor analysts use this document to stay informed of the activities and travel of world leaders and to guide their areas of focus for the week.


  • Oct. 23: Spain's Socialist Party will meet to decide its position on the formation of a new government.
  • Oct. 24-25: King Felipe VI of Spain will hold talks with the leaders of 15 parties to discuss forming a government. If successful, a debate on investiture will take place Oct. 26 followed by a vote on the new government Oct. 27 and a potential second vote Oct. 29.
  • Oct. 29: Iceland will conduct parliamentary elections.
  • Oct. 25: Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbas will visit Moscow.
  • Oct. 30: Moldova will conduct its first direct presidential election since 2001.
  • Oct. 30: Georgia will hold the second round of local elections.
  • Oct. 24: China and Tajikistan will conclude joint military exercises that began Oct. 20.
  • Oct. 24-26: Myanmar President Htin Kyaw will travel to Vietnam to attend the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam summit and the World Economic Forum on the Mekong.
  • Oct. 25-27: Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will visit Japan to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. 
  • Oct. 25-30: Thai authorities will heighten security measures in Bangkok following reports of a potential terrorist attack. 
  • Oct. 26: Jordanian King Abdullah will visit Japan.
  • Oct. 26-27: U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to South Korea and Japan to discuss strategies to manage North Korea.
  • Oct. 28: The Bank of Japan will release its core inflation reading.
  • Oct. 24: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch an irrigation scheme in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Oct. 26-27: The fourth meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission will be held in New Delhi.
  • Oct. 27: Pakistan's government will observe "Black Day" to protest Indian territorial claims in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Oct. 24-25: The Oil, Gas and Infrastructure Conference for Iraq's Basra province will convene in Beirut.
  • Oct. 26-27: Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag will meet U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss the extradition of opposition leader Fethullah Gulen.
  • Oct. 28-29: The High-Level Technical Committee of OPEC will gather in Vienna ahead of the organization's conference in November.
  • Oct. 26: Argentina's legislature will vote on the annual budget.
  • Oct. 26-28: Venezuela's opposition was originally set to collect signatures on a petition calling for the recall of President Nicolas Maduro, but the National Electoral Council declared this illegal Oct. 20.
  • Oct. 26: Ecuador will lower its tariffs on imported goods. 
  • Oct. 27: The EU-Canada Summit is scheduled for this date.
  • Oct. 29: Across Colombia, protests against a peace agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) will take place.
  • Oct. 26: The South African Ministry of Finance will present its medium-term budget policy statement to parliament.
  • Oct. 27: The International Criminal Court expert will present findings on the failed 2015 coup in Burkina Faso. 
  • Oct. 30: Ivory Coast will hold a referendum on a new constitution. 
  • Oct. 30: Somalia's parliament is expected to select a new president.
