Summary

U.S. President Barack Obama visited Iraq on April 7. His visit comes against the backdrop of the U.S. withdrawal, as well as increasing sectarian violence in Iraq. This increase in violence could well interfere with Washington's desire to shift its focus from Iraq to Afghanistan.

While the overall security situation in Iraq remains the best it has been since the start of the 2003 war, flaring sectarian tensions mean no U.S. withdrawal timetable can be set in stone....
