Kuwait: Despite Diplomatic Row, GCC Members Invite Qatar to Annual Summit

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) may be attempting to sweep its dispute with Qatar under the rug. Although lingering enmity remains, the media war that began in May among GCC member states -- pitting Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain against Qatar -- has become less prominent in recent weeks. And this week Kuwait, which is also a member of the GCC, began to send out invitations for the annual GCC Summit to be held Dec 5-6. Among those invited was Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, who received his official invitation Nov 30. As the bloc reels from its most significant dispute in years, there had been some speculation that Gulf state leaders would delay or even cancel the GCC Summit. Now that the event is likely to take place, the question is whether Qatar and the rest of the GCC can actually bridge their divergent...
