Pakistan: Who Will Become Army Chief?

Pakistani officials have announced that President Pervez Musharraf plans to relinquish his office as army chief. Though no deadline has been set, questions are emerging as to who his successor will be. In the past, Musharraf promoted military commanders on the basis of loyalty rather than tenure — meaning that the current deputy chief of the army, Gen. Mohammad Yousef, likely will be passed over in favor of another.
