Summary

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev "dismissed" Murat Zyazikov, the highly unpopular president of the Northern Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, late Oct. 30. Although Moscow has been concerned about the restive republic, until now it was too concerned with Chechnya and Georgia to take action in Ingushetia. Medvedev's choice for Zyazikov's replacement clearly shows how the Kremlin intends to deal with Ingushetia.
