Summary
Tensions increased between Ecuador and Colombia when Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez recently alleged that corrupt Ecuadorian military officers are selling weapons to Colombian rebels. Although Uribe's accusation probably is accurate, Bogota likely will retract the charge under pressure from the Bush administration, which doesn't want to upset relations with Ecuador as the military increases its control over the government.
