Joel Garreau is the Professor of Law, Culture and Values at Arizona State University. His core appointment is in the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. He is also affiliated with over a dozen centers and initiatives aimed at bringing cross-disciplinary creativity to technology's impact on culture, values and society. His current passions include being the founding director of The Prevail Project, being a founder and co-director of the gala annual event "Emerge: Artists + Scientists Redesign the Future," and being a founder and co-director of the Future Tense Partnership among Arizona State University, Slate magazine, and The New America Foundation in Washington, D.C., where Joel is a fellow.
Joel is most recently the author of Radical Evolution: The Promise and Peril of Enhancing Our Minds, Our Bodies — and What It Means to Be Human. A former long-time reporter and editor for The Washington Post, he has served as a fellow at the University of Cambridge, the University of California at Berkeley and George Mason University, and as an affiliate of the University of Oxford's James Martin 21st Century School. He has been a long-time member of Global Business Network, the pioneering scenario-planning organization.
