Bangladesh: U.S. Urges Garment Buyers To Stay Involved In The Country

Amid concerns on the safety of the Bangladeshi garment factories, U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman urged international garment buyers — particularly those in the United States — to remain engaged in Bangladesh, Reuters reported May 27. Sherman added that the United States is working with U.S. companies that source garments from factories in Bangladesh to gain support for better safety inspections. The recent collapse of a building housing garment factories, which resulted in many workers' deaths, has prompted protests and has refocused global attention on safety assessments of such factories.
