Egypt: Islamist Group Proposes Referendum

The hardline Islamist group Jamaa al-Islamiya on July 5 proposed conducting a referendum on returning deposed President Mohammed Morsi to office, Ahram reported. The army-sponsored post-Morsi roadmap would serve as the other option in the referendum. The successor to Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood will have to understand that its role will be to manage the affairs of the state while being a caretaker of the military's interests.
