EU: European Parliament Approves von der Leyen as Next Commission President

Background: European leaders decided to nominate von der Leyen — whose term will begin in October — in early July after dropping the Spitzenkandidat mechanism, which ended German conservative Manfred Weber's bid for the presidency.
