Iraq: Kurdistan Reduces Oil Exports

The Kurdistan Regional Government will reduce its oil exports in half until the Iraqi government pays debts owed to international firms working in the region, an adviser in the Kurdish natural resources ministry said Dec. 5, Shafaq News reported. Some technical troubles have also contributed to the cut, the adviser said. Northern Iraq's vast oil reserves are central to Kurdistan's ability to assert its independence, and relations between Baghdad and the Kurdish government have declined severely.
