Iraq: Mosul Offensive To Begin Oct. 19, Turkish President Says

The offensive to push Islamic State forces out of the Iraqi city of Mosul will begin Oct. 19, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sept. 25, Rudaw reported. Kurdish officials in Iraq could not confirm Erdogan's assertion and said that while the president of Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government, Massoud Barzani, has been discussing the timing of the operation with Iraqi and U.S. officials, the launch date would not be made public. Erdogan's statement comes just days after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said the presence of Turkish forces in Iraq will hinder the operation to retake Mosul.
