Islamist militants and forces loyal to Libya's Tobruk-based House of Representatives clashed Feb. 20 in Benghazi's Boatni neighborhood, leaving 12 dead and 17 wounded, military representative Wanis Boukhamada said, Reuters reported. A Feb. 19 U.S. airstrike targeted an Islamic State camp near the Tunisian border and killed at least 50 people. Two Serbian hostages also died in the bombing, according to Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic. Libya is mired in a period of protracted chaos. Jihadists aligned with al Qaeda and the Islamic State now control substantial portions of the country. Thanks to their connections with other militant groups in the region, there is a network that provides training and weapons reaching from the Sinai Peninsula to West Africa.
