Lithuania: Baltic Ministers Support Nuclear Power Plant

The Baltic Council of Ministers has expressed support for the Visaginas nuclear power plant project in Lithuania, Bloomberg reported Nov. 9. The council, comprising foreign ministers and lawmakers from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, said the project could increase the region's energy security. In a nonbinding referendum held in October, Lithuanian voters rejected a plan to replace the old Ignalina nuclear power plant with a new one. Lithuania wants to use energy diversification projects to end its dependence on Russia.
