In a Dec. 15 speech, U.S. national security adviser H.R. McMaster said that Russia has begun a intricate campaign to influence Mexico's presidential election in 2018, newspaper Reforma said Jan. 7 in a report from Reuters. In a video clip posted by the Mexican newspaper, McMaster said that there was already evidence of Russian interference. The White House official said Russia tries to polarize democratic societies and to pit groups against each other. He did not explain how Russia was seeking to affect the election.
