What Happened: At least 15 Nigerian senators have left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), 14 of them to join the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), Reuters reported July 24.
Why It Matters: The APC has lost its majority in the upper house of Nigeria's parliament, making it much less likely that President Muhammadu Buhari will be re-elected in 2019.
Background: Buhari's difficult style of leadership and health issues have caused lawmakers to lose confidence in him.
