Oman: Cameron Visits, Military Aircraft Deal Signed

Omani Sultan Qaboos bin Said met with British Prime Minister David Cameron in Muscat on Dec. 21, shortly after the country signed a contract to buy military aircraft from British defense and aerospace company BAE Systems, AFP and BNA reported. The contract, reportedly worth $4.1 billion, includes 12 Typhoon fighter jets and eight Hawk aircraft. Oman has successfully leveraged its control over part of the Strait of Hormuz to gain security backing from global naval powers such as the United Kingdom.
