Turkey: Bank Linked To U.S.-Based Cleric Is Seized

Turkey has seized control of a bank affiliated with a moderate Islamic movement that is at odds with the current government, AP reported Feb. 4. Turkish financial authorities appointed a new CEO and board to Bank Asya, accusing the bank of violating banking regulations on transparency. The seizure comes as Turkey is targeting the movement of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said is plotting against the government.
