Summary

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s plan to nationalize Argentina’s 10 privately owned pension funds has hit a roadblock, and there are more to come. The pensions maintain investments in foreign equity markets, and when the funds are nationalized these holdings will come at a high cost to the government, one it can ill afford as it scrambles to control its borrowing.
