Bolivia: Flirting with Implosion

Bolivia is teetering on the edge of disintegration. The declarations of autonomy in four of Bolivia's nine provinces — Santa Cruz, Tarija, Beni and Pando — are a move to maintain their monopoly over the country's wealth. Should Bolivia fall apart, a revitalized Brazilian-Argentine power struggle in the region is likely to ensue.
