Summary

Canada and the United States are expected to enter a new phase of border security negotiations in the coming months. Motivated by economic need, the two countries have a long history of cooperating on border-security issues, but in the post-9/11 world, expanding the so-called "security perimeter" to the borders of North America raises sovereignty concerns for Canada.
