China: Beijing Bites Back at Trump's Trade Measures

China is taking steps to strike back at the trade measures from U.S. President Donald Trump. On March 23, China's Ministry of Commerce announced plans for reciprocal tariffs on $3 billion worth of U.S. imports to China. Specifically, China plans to place 15 percent tariff on $977 million worth of U.S. fruit, wine, ginseng and seamless steel pipe imports, as well as a separate 25 percent tariff on $1.99 billion worth of U.S. pork and recyclable aluminum imports. The tariff announcement was accompanied by a statement saying the Chinese government was gathering public opinion on the planned tariffs and called on the United States to resolve its trade dispute through dialogue. Moreover, the statement said that China would directly apply the 15 percent tariffs, take action regarding the 25 percent tariffs based on its evaluation of U.S. trade measures....
