China: Cracking the Whip in Macau

Summary
Macau Transportation and Public Works Minister Ao Man-long has been arrested for accepting bribes, the government of Macau announced Dec. 7. The arrest shows that mainland China's extensive anti-corruption drive now extends into the Special Administrative Region of Macau. Before long, similar measures will be taken in Hong Kong — giving the central government more control in dealing with the daily governance of its two autonomous former colonial enclaves.
