China, U.S.: The Latest Intellectual Property Rights Issue

A Chinese national, Yuan Hongwei, fled the United Kingdom before a court was to decide Jan. 10 whether he should be extradited to the United States on charges of violating intellectual property rights (IPR). The case exemplifies the complex relationships between IPR protections and U.S. and Chinese businesses, as well as the tensions between levels of government in China.
