Summary
After a three-week delay, the eighth round of peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the country's largest guerrilla movement, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, commonly known as the FARC, are under way. The talks have proceeded slowly, with progress minimal and often hidden from the public eye. Now, Bogota is seriously considering parallel negotiations with the country's second-largest rebel group, the National Liberation Army. This could complicate negotiations with the FARC. If all goes well, however, the effects of success in the peace process would be magnified.
