Cote d'Ivoire: The Politics of a Hit List

Officials in Cote d'Ivoire uncovered a coup plot against President Laurent Gbagbo, Ivorian Col. Babri Gohourou said Dec. 12. The hit list did not include Ivorian Prime Minister Charles Konan Banny. While various figures could be behind the alleged plot, a show of complicity by Banny — whether real or fabricated — would give Gbagbo the ammunition he needs to sideline or discredit the widely praised prime minister.
