Damage reports from the March 11 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami in Japan continue to mount. In this graphic, STRATFOR overlays the damaged areas with Japan's population centers, transport infrastructure and electricity-generating facilities. Sendai, and the farmland surrounding Sendai, were largely destroyed by the earthquake and tsunami. The cities of Iwaki, Hitachi, Katsuta and Mito also suffered serious damage, with ports, roads and railroads in particular experiencing devastation. Of particular note are the two nuclear power plants in the center of the disaster zone that have been experiencing cascades of failures in the days since.
