Denmark: NATO Leadership by a Model U.S. Ally

Summary

With Turkey announcing it would not veto his candidacy, it is almost certain now that Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen will become the next secretary-general of NATO. This would be a welcome development in Washington. Denmark and the United States share much common ground in their views of Europe. But no matter who heads NATO, getting Europe to follow the U.S. lead in increasing troop strength in Afghanistan and in dealing with Russia will be no easy task.
