DRC: Kabila's Victory, Bemba's Challenge
Nov 16, 2006 | 03:03 GMT
Summary
Provisional results released Nov. 15 for the Democratic Republic of the Congo's presidential runoff election show incumbent Joseph Kabila with 58 percent of the vote to rival Jean-Pierre Bemba's 42 percent. Though Bemba probably will contest the official outcome, and violence is likely to occur, both will be short-lived and limited to the capital region — and will not deny Kabila a fresh five-year term.
