France: The Trajectory of the French Military

French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced May 27 that France will close some of its military installations — both domestic and foreign — and delay the decision to fund a planned aircraft carrier. These are just two components of a potential realignment of the focus of the entire French military (and in a sense the French government at large) — one that could have consequences for the entire Mediterranean Sea.
