Meeting its energy needs is one of Germany's biggest challenges. The country is dependent on imported oil and natural gas and has set ambitious goals for switching to renewable energy and phasing out nuclear power. A recently announced undersea cable to Norway will help Germany diversify its sources of electrical power, but a move to renewables will not end Germany's dependence on energy imports.
