Summary
In Germany, far-right activism takes different forms, from political activities (extremists compete in local and federal elections, with greater success at the municipal and regional levels) to vandalism and violence organized by loosely connected groups. There is also a territorial aspect, in that right-wing actions are more common in former East Germany than in the western part of the country. Political, economic and cultural constraints have prevented right-wing extremism from growing substantially in Germany since the beginning of the European economic crisis. But demographic changes will pose a key challenge for Germany in decades to come.
