Greece: The Debate Over Eurozone Bailouts Returns

Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras renewed the debate over eurozone bailouts Aug. 25, when he said his country may need an additional 10 billion euros (about $13 billion) in funding for 2014. Funding will not be the problem. Greece was granted 110 billion euros in 2010 and 140 billion euros in 2012, and it was allowed to write off 100 billion euros of debt. The European Union can afford such a small payment. Whether Europe will assist Athens in its bailout will be a purely political decision.
