Greek Elections Threaten Traditional Elite

Summary

Greece is set to hold parliamentary elections May 6, and the country's two traditional ruling parties are polling at historic lows. Should these poll numbers hold, the elections will create a fragmented parliament and a weak government wherein traditional elites will have to share power with smaller political parties, many of which are opposed to the country's recent austerity measures. As a result, the new government will struggle with trying to soften austerity measures and ensuring continuing support from the European Union.

The new Greek government will have to balance appeasing its voters against complying with EU-mandated bailout terms....
