A South Korean patrol ship sank March 26 near the Northern Limit Line, the maritime border dividing the two Koreas. Although various explanations for the incident have surfaced thus far — including a torpedo, an exchange of fire with an unidentified ship and an explosion aboard the patrol vessel — the event underscores the ongoing (and periodically increasing) tensions with North Korea. Pyongyang has signaled in the past that crises involving the Northern Limit Line could erupt.
