Summary
More than a dozen explosions rocked western Assam state in northeastern India on Oct. 30. Assam has long been a violent area, mostly because of the activities of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) separatist movement. The Oct. 30 attacks, however, were more deadly and sophisticated than any other recent ULFA attacks. More sophisticated attacks in the northeast could be attributable to other militant Islamist outfits operating in India and neighboring Bangladesh.
