Iran, EU: Tehran Shoots Down Ballistic Missile Negotiation Claim

The European Union and Iran are running out of time to meet U.S. demands to counter Iran's ballistic missile program. On Jan. 16, Financial Times reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had agreed to talk about the program with his counterparts from the United Kingdom, Germany and France, as well as with the European Union's foreign policy chief. But on Jan. 17, Iran's defense minister and its Foreign Ministry spokesman both denied that Iran was willing to negotiate the issue. Recently, the United States put both Europe and Iran on notice that, unless a supplemental deal addressing Iran's activities is not made in 120 days, the United States will not extend the sanction waivers as agreed under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal.
