Iran: The Threat to the Strait of Hormuz

Summary

Following a thinly veiled threat June 28 by the commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps to "shut" the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Fifth Fleet insisted June 30 that the U.S. Navy would not allow any such thing. In light of this exchange, STRATFOR examines Iran's military capability along the vital international waterway.
