Summary
Abdel Aziz al-Hakim, chief of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq (ISCI), died Aug. 26, according to officials from his political party. Al-Hakim's death, although long expected, is a serious loss to Iran and the United States. Both Iran and the ISCI will need to ensure a smooth leadership transition in order to retain their respective political influence.
