Summary
Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Massoud Barzani has ordered Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga units to surround the city of Kirkuk, Al Hayat reported Aug. 7. Arab tribal leaders have threatened to attack the peshmergas in response. Tensions have been particularly high over the oil-rich and ethnically diverse city of Kirkuk in recent weeks, and the time bomb could be ready to explode.
