Iraq: The Vulnerability of Camp Bucca
Apr 22, 2005 | 02:54 GMT
Summary
Camp Bucca is a hot, dusty collection of tents and temporary buildings near Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. Officially called a "theater internment facility" (TIF), the camp contains 6,000 enemy prisoners of war who are guarded by 1,200 to 1,600 U.S. troops. Living conditions at the isolated TIF are poor, and a series of incidents in recent months have created a volatile atmosphere. If jihadists target Camp Bucca as part of their Abu Anas al-Shami offensive, the outcome could be bad for the coalition.
