Iraqi Militants Attack Tikrit Government Building

Summary

Around 10 gunmen detonated explosive devices and took hostages at the Salah ad Din Province Governorate building in Tikrit, Iraq, on March 29. U.S. and Iraqi security forces have thus far been unable to neutralize the attackers or free the hostages. Major attacks such as this are becoming less common in Iraq, but this incident shows that Iraqi militant groups have not completely lost their capabilities.
