Jordan's prime minister has resigned. He will be replaced by a member of the influential Bani Sakhr tribe, in a move aimed at reaffirming the king's relationship with tribal groups and reducing the power of the merchant elite. The king's balancing act, however, might encourage a confluence of interests between the country's popular Islamist movements and the urban business class.
