Kuwait: Parliament Dissolved During a Redistricting Row

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah dissolved Kuwait's legislature May 21; new elections have been set for June 29. The move is designed to check the emergence of parliament as bastion of anti-government elements that have been gaining strength. While the dissolution will not necessarily lead to governance problems in Kuwait, it does complicate the regional dynamic given the situations involving Iraq and Iran.
