Lebanon: Syria and the Ex-Prime Minister's Death
Feb 14, 2005 | 20:11 GMT
Summary
A large car bomb exploded Feb. 14 in the heart of downtown Beirut, Lebanon, killing former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri. Al-Hariri's death could have been engineered by Syria in cooperation with al-Hariri's local political rivals. This assassination could return the country to a period of civil unrest that ended with the 1990 peace accords.
