Menem To Quit Argentine Race in Last Career Move
May 14, 2003 | 15:50 GMT
Summary
Editor's Note: Several hours after this piece was published, Menem did in fact announce his withdrawal from Argentina's presidential race, citing "cheating" in the campaign. Rival Nestor Kirchner will be inaugurated May 25. Former Argentine President Carlos Menem's apparent decision to quit the presidential campaign four days before the May 18 run-off election is a desperate bid to rescue his vanishing political career. However, by quitting, Menem actually has accelerated his political extinction. Argentina won't cry for him, ever.
