Protests in the northern Mozambican city of Nampula, ostensibly over a cholera outbreak, reached a head Feb. 21 when activists from the opposition Mozambique National Resistance Movement ransacked the local offices of the ruling Mozambique Liberation Front, Mozambican media reported. The location of the protests is significant in that it shows that the opposition has the ability to undermine the Mozambican government and the natural resource development it is promoting.
