NATO: The Many Purposes of the Rapid Reaction Force

NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said Oct. 13 the alliance's rapid reaction force was ready for action. The new force not only extends NATO's operational reach and expands its options; it also locks Europe into a NATO-centric — and therefore U.S.-centric — defense paradigm.
